Is AI( Artificial intelligence) the Future? Or a Disaster?

             Article by: Waseem ur Rehman

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that works on building intelligent machines, which are able to perform tasks that require human intelligence. AI has been around for more than 60 years, but only recently have scientists begun to use its capabilities in practical ways.

The good side of AI use:

AI’s ability to process large amounts of data and reach conclusions quickly can help us make better decisions. For example, AI has been used to track the spread of disease by analyzing where people travel. It can also be used to spot patterns in financial transactions that could indicate signs of money laundering.

AI can help us make better decisions by giving us insight into the data we are collecting and analyzing. It can also help us optimize our systems by detecting when things aren’t working properly and then fixing them before it becomes an issue.

The bad side of AI use:

In 2018, there were over 30 reports of autonomous systems causing harm or death. A study from the University of Oxford found that there were over 1 billion driverless vehicle accidents by 2025. If we rely solely on AI for our safety, we could be putting ourselves at risk without even knowing it. AI can also be used to target specific groups of people and make decisions that affect their lives.

For example, if you are a young black man with a criminal record, AI might suggest that you should be charged higher interest rates on your loans or even denied one altogether. This is just one example of how AI could be used against certain groups in society. AI can also be used to manipulate people. It’s already happening with social media algorithms, which are designed to get users addicted and keep them coming back for more. It’s easy to see how this could be abused by politicians or corporations in order to influence elections or sales.
